Research Analyst — Policy Analysis Unit (x2)

The Global Research Institute at William & Mary is currently seeking TWO part-time Research Analysts to support the Policy and Analysis Unit within AidData. They will be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis on a variety of projects as well as supporting the writing of reports.

This position will work closely with the Deputy Director of Research and/or a Senior Research Analyst on three types of projects:

  1. To study the scope and impact of United States and Chinese development finance on lower and middle-income countries (LMIC),
  2. To analyze the perceptions of elites in LIMICs of international donors,
  3. To provide formative analysis on the field of human migration and its researchers for the purpose of building an online platform to support migration research.

This is a part-time position, with an advertised pay range of $25-32/hr. Immigration visa sponsorship is not available for these part-time positions. This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates able to work a hybrid schedule with 2 or more days in-person in Williamsburg. However, we will also consider well-qualified candidates for fully remote work.

This position is eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or related fields, or comparable education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of policy research
  • Expert knowledge of the policy environment through experience in government, policy research and deep knowledge of the policy environment through experience in government, military or academia.
  • Expert skill in technical assessment i.e. analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data some involving R coding.
  • Advanced skills in developing recommendations which might have a significant fiscal, budgetary, programmatic, regulatory, planning, performance and policy impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of technical and non-technical staff ; and to maintain good communication with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently, meet project timelines and schedules, utilize exceptional organizational skills to meet deadlines, and work under your own initiative.
  • Considerable experience working with R or similar data analysis software
  • Proficient user of Google Suite of applications and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate or Post graduate studies or PhD in Economics, Social Sciences, Public
    Policy, or Related Fields
  • Advanced work experience in R and Stata
  • Demonstrated experience with social network analysis
  • Knowledge of survey methods and demonstrated experience conducting analysis of primary survey data
